Marynel Vázquez – Final Project Ideas
Interactive 3D Drawing Generator
The motivation for this project is the same I had for Project 4 ((r)evolve).

Personal Space Competition
Have you thought of how your personal space changes as your day goes along? This idea involves a small installation driven by transit data (maybe another type of data if new ideas come to mind).
The installation is composed by a constrained space (a box for example) and two balloons that compete for this space while inflating. Here’s an example of an inflating balloon controlled with an Arduino:
Is there any source of data about how personal space changes between cultures?
Here are todays comments:
Balloon * 1000 == cool
Too many ideas coming through…technology/social_cultural…what are you trying to do? Affect users? space?
Measure distance out the window of a moving car.

The balloon space idea is really interesting. I think you can do it so that as they flip through different pictures the balloon gets more or less inflated, depending on the amount of space they would have in that particular place.
I think you should measure distances and relate it to personal space. Just to see how much personal space you get around
I kind of enjoy the idea of drawing with a drawing (if I understood your first idea). I think registering the sheet, then playing with it coud be cool, but I think that Idea needs to be fleshed out a little more. The bloon is cool too, but im a little confused.
I like the balloon idea. But I think you can think out a better scenario for the project. For me, the bus story is not that compelling.
I liked the paper tracking better — the idea that someone could “draw” an object in space and then have it printed out seems like it could be kinda magical.
“You can’t carry a kinect around…. well you could.”
Personal space policing bubble… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_%28The_Prisoner%29
The personal space idea resonated and could be interesting, find out how close it too close on average.
talk to riley if you want to borrow big weather balloons and computer controlled air compressor
I think developing a wearable that inflates/deflates based on your ‘personal space’ bubble … maybe if there are a lot of people in a closed space, your outfit inflates to make more personal space for you. A blowfish effect. I know that coming from the US, my personal space of comfort was a lot larger than when I was in Europe.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seedbed_(performance_piece)
< ha. I mean his later architecture work. :-) http://rectangleface.tumblr.com/post/2781297415/vito-acconci-andrew-in-clamshell-museum-of

I think the reason why it reminds me of Vito Acconci is that the person’s presence in the room makes it awkward. I’m thinking about the inflating balloon.
