I just saw this. If you’re interested in using subtitle files, I have some Processing code for parsing them. Still, the bat stuff is important and interesting; could you provide some more details about the data you’re using?

I think I’m going with the bats; thanks though!
The link here was the first thing I found, and only really includes ranges. I’m using this data primarily at this point; it only goes until 2000 for most states, which is unfortunate given the recent steep decline; I’m still poking around looking for the past 10 years. I know which states suffered a 90% decline as of the past year, but no hard data; bats are apparently notoriously hard to count.
