I would like to use my final project as an opportunity to continue to work with the outdoor advertising database. Specifically, I’d like to continue looking into ways to extract people and objects from their advertising context, placing them in a situation where the viewer can experience them first for what they are, without totally losing awareness of their status as marketing objects. One possibility is for this to take the form of a navigable virtual environment (perhaps a virtual house party?) in which all of the faces of advertising are mingling in a space filled with soda, liquor, and other objects also extracted from ads.
Luca pointed me in the direction of Microsoft COCO; I’d like to explore that as a possible way of extracting people and objects.
