Due 3-3 (Visualization)

Visualizing a Place

Create a visualization of a place.
This might be a map, environment, landscape, or other visualization.

  • Your subject, the place, may be microscopic, or it may be universe-sized, or anything in between. For example, it could be a room, house, city, country, continent, or the back of your hand.
  • Your representation of/about this place may be a “map”, or it may be a representation of a different sort (such as an abstract information visualization, or immersive environment). For example, it could be derived from photographic data, or it could be from non-geographic information.
  • The provenance of your data is very important; we are just as interested in what’s worth visualizing as how it is visualized. It may be necessary for you to build a machine to collect the data yourself.
  • The purpose of this visualization is to provide insight about your subject, and potentially spark new questions about it.
  • A virtual place can be a place.
  • A person can be a place.

This assignment is due at the beginning of class on Thursday, March 3.

You should also have completed the Waypoint assignment beforehand (due 2/23), which involves a bit of reading and planning.
