I think this work is really cute! When multiple kids are set up to interact with it, it begins to associate their interaction with each other with the gust of wind coming from the machine: i.e. to high five or to hold hands in the air also is to trigger the blower. This takes this piece out of an area where it’s spotlighting only one hero — as superheroes often are — and makes it a more social and equal space.
I also appreciate the diversity of motions that can trigger the machine: You don’t just have to pose as Superman to feel the surge of wind at your back. This also just makes the work more approachable and fun to explore.
Golan appeared unexpectedly in one of the documenting videos for this piece and that’s why I chose it.
