The Bay Lights is a light sculpture on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco which has alternate flickering LED lights that show patterns and objects moving across the Bay Bridge. It is made by Leo Villareal, who often works with rhythmic and light sculptures in public. His work is self-coded and often uses math.
This work was the first major electronic-coded work I’ve seen in public, and just the size and how it lit up the city night, made going outside to see night life more delightful. The bridge’s lights moves in insulation like waves and it also has fish swimming, fits the environment and highlights the best part of living in a city near water.
