This is a projection of real time data about Minneapolis and I think it’s really cool because it visualizes data in such a large and public scale and it displays information from a wholistic perspective for people on the plaza (those most involved in the city) to see. I think it raises a sense of how grand of a scale the city is operating, and makes people feel important and trivial at the same time.
Meanwhile the aesthetics remind me of futuristic, cyberpunk works like Bladerunner and Ghost in the Shell (the Japanese anime, not the Hollywood film), and the fact that it only displays city data at night strengthens that feel. I don’t know if that’s intentional. I don’t directly see a connection between these data and cyberpunk. I like this look because I like cyberpunk aesthetics in general. Not sure how others think, though.
